Las Campanas Residence Tradition meets old
world details The plan of this residence reflects
both European classic and Southwestern forms.
The central entry courtyard is circular, an open space within the
building that has as strong an identity as any element of the home. A trellis roof over the encircling portal
makes light patterns that shift throughout the day. The flagstone path runs between between two
water features and the substantial columns support half arches. The primary entry is layered through a
series of antique doors, to an outer courtyard to the inner courtyard through
a zaguan, Zaguan means “throat” in
Spanish and in local architecture signifies the roofed space through which
you pass from the inner to the outer world of the building. Inside, the typical viga and planked roof
are made more interesting by the addition of 4 x 4 purlins, a detail borrowed
from Tuscany. Textured plaster, stone
floors and counters, and hand made doors from Mexico strengthen the old world
character of the house. |
