Adobe: mud brick mixed with straw and other addititves to make a building block; usually 14” x 10” x 4”.  May be used in double or triple courses

Territorial Style: refers to one of the three major historical styles in Santa Fe, characterized by clean lines, dimensional lumber joists and columns, & brick detailing

Pueblo Style: characterized by rounded edges, orgainic forms, viga joists and columns, & stone  and plaster detailing

Nicho: a recess in a wall; can have a rounded top  and be lit from above

Vigas: log joists, usually at least 8” in diameter, often larger, the traditional carrying beam in ceiling structure.  Also used as columns in portals.

Kiva:  a traditional corner fireplace with a quarter curve front and rounded fireplace opening

Portal: porch

Corbel: the carved wood piece between the top of a viga column and wood beam, both decorative and structural, minimizing the span between columns

Latillas: 1-3” diameter saplings used in ceilings
